EnAccess Foundation and World Resources Institute (WRI) are pleased to announce the first ever Open Source in Energy Access Symposium (OSEAS) to be held in Abuja, Nigeria, May 7th to 10th, 2024, in partnership with the World Bank, Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) and Climate Compatible Growth.

The Symposium aims to bring together energy access practitioners, open source developers (both hardware and software) and users, policymakers, investors, researchers, and donors to learn from each other’s experiences, exchange know-how, and explore how open source can be leveraged to improve energy access where it is needed the most.

The event will feature keynote speeches, and panel discussions featuring renowned speakers like Prof. Vijay Modi, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Columbia University; Dr. Dimitris Mentis, Lead, Energy Access Explorer, World Resources Institute and Daniel Komolafe, Founder, First Electric.

Other confirmed speakers expected are Chioma Ome, Country Director, Solar Sister Nigeria; Ifunanya Genevieve Nwandu, Off grid Solar Expert, World Bank; and Ruth Ikegah, OS Program Manager, CHAOSS & OSCA.

According to the organizers, EnAccess and WRI, the event will include presentations and networking opportunities focusing on the development, utilization, and impact of open source tools for energy access. Functioning as an ecosystem builder, the Symposium will provide a vital platform for stakeholders to discuss the challenges and prospects confronting open source tools for Energy Access in Nigeria and Africa.

On the top of the agenda to be discussed at the event will include opportunities and lessons learned from developing and adopting open source technologies in commercial products, open source opportunities and limitations for successful business models, the design of a Venn diagram highlighting where donor interest, practitioner needs, and open source solution developers intersect. In addition, from May 9 — 10, an open source in energy access hackathon will be held as part of the symposium.

Registration for the Open Source in Energy Access Symposium 2024 is open, and interested participants can secure their spots by registering through the following link: https://www.oseas.org/home by 14 April 2024.
